Summer Projects

I have a very short summer this year because I taught summer school and we go back early, so I am embracing it as much as I can! One of my goals for the summer was to do a few diy projects around the house and also for some gifts. My mom came and spent a week with us and helped to transform an ugly old dresser we have had for a few years. What a facelift!
Because of the glossy finish of the dresser, I was worried that paint wouldn't work on the piece, but did some research and discovered chalk paint which can supposedly stick to anything! When we went to the store to buy some, the very helpful Lowe's employee told us that it's way cheaper to buy Plaster of Paris powder and mix it with regular paint and that's essentially chalk paint...helpful hint! We painted and weren't completely happy with the flatness of the color so we decided to get the antiquing wax and just put a light coat of that on top of the grayish-blue, added some new copper hardware and voila! I think it turned out pretty good!

I also wanted to spruce up our front door with something Summery so I found a wreath I loved (but couldn't afford) on Etsy and used it as an inspiration to make my own. The brown wreath was around $4, flowers were about $3 on sale at Michaels, the letter was $2 and I already had the ribbon and a glue gun, so this was a very cheap project!

I have another project that I am dying to share with everyone but it's a wedding gift, so I'll have to wait on that one! Can't wait to do a few more projects this summer (during nap time of course!)

Back to Blogging!

Hello all, it has been a while since I have been on the blogging scene. But being a new mom and on many other exciting life ventures, I decided to share some insights in a blog. Hope you all will enjoy it!
